Location
Northville is located at the northern end of Northville Township in northwest Wayne County on the western fringe of the Detroit Metro area.
The city is equally divided between Wayne and Oakland Counties. Northville can be easily accessed off of M-14 and I-96 both running east and west, or off of I-275 running north and south.
Northville is located approximately 22 miles northwest of Detroit and 14 miles from Ann Arbor. It is 52 miles north of Toledo, Ohio, and 56 miles east of Lansing, Michigan’s capital city.

The city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, and 0.50% of it is water. The Northville area is known for its rolling hills. The major waterway in the area is the River Rouge. It is 126 miles long and is divided into four branches, the main, upper, middle, and lower branches.
The middle branch of the River Rouge originates in Northville with the joining of the "Walled Lake branch" and Johnson Drain. From Northville, it flows south through Northville Township and Plymouth Township before turning to the southeast in the city of Plymouth.
